Medical Alert System for customers with Digital Phone:
Care Connect AoIP
The Medical Alert industry's first non-proprietary solution for Medical Alert System monitoring using your digital phone (WAN or Cable/DSL Broadband Internet connection) - Care Connect AoIP.
 |
Care Connect AoIP (Alarm over IP) service from The Care Center was designed specifically for the industry to properly address the issues involving transmission of alarm signals over a WAN or Broadband Internet connection. There is growing concern in the Medical Alert industry concerning the use of VoIP (Voice over IP) services for alarm transmission and supervision. The truth is, alarm |
systems connected via traditional VoIP services such as Vonage or AT&T CallVantage may or may not work. VoIP service was designed for voice communications, not for transmission of alarm system data. VoIP can actually reduce alarm transmission reliability and provides absolutely no supervision of the connection between your medical Alarm and the monitoring center.
Care Connect AoIP (Alarm over IP) service is different than VoIP. For a low cost, Care Connect AoIP connects your medical alert system directly to your alarm monitoring center, it does not require the customer to subscribe to and pay for more expensive VoIP services. All that is required at the customer site is a Broadband Internet connection and the installation of a custom configured Linksys Adapter purchased from The Care Center. No configuration changes need to be made to the Medical Alert system, and the Care Connect system is compatible with all medical alert equipment. Also, no changes need to be made at the alarm monitoring center. Alarm signals come into the alarm center receivers exactly the way they did before. The Medical Alarm system will communicate directly to the alarm receiver located at the alarm monitoring center. Now customers can take full advantage of the benefits and cost saving of using their broadband connection and actually enhance the reliability of their Medical Alert System. Best of all, the Care Connect AoIP connection is constantly supervised. Your monitoring center can notify you immediately if your internet connection is lost. With regular dial-up service and other VoIP services, you and your monitoring company have no supervision and no notification if the alarm system is unable to communicate. Many customers believe the small monthly fee is more than worth it just to pick up the connection supervision capability of Care Connect AoIP.
Here's how Care Connect AoIP works
Care Connect AoIP (Alarm over IP) does not require a VoIP service. If VoIP service exists, AoIP runs alongside rather than through the VoIP service. All that is needed for AoIP to work is a Broadband Internet connection, a custom configured Linksys Adapter purchased from The Care Center, and a service agreement that registers the account with the Care Connect server.
When the medical alarm panel has something to report (goes off hook) the Linksys Adapter issues dial tone. The medical alert dials the 800 number of the monitoring center, which causes the Linksys Adapter to request a connection session from the Care Connect server. The Care Connect server instantaneously directs the connection to an IP to PSTN gateway and forwards the call to The Care Center 800 number. As soon as this path is set and the 800 number is dialed, the communications link is true point to point between the alarm panel and the alarm receiver at the monitoring center.
Unlike traditional VoIP service, Care Connect AoIP Adapters are configured to always use the highest bandwidth (best quality codec), so you never have a degraded signal and alarm traffic is sent and acknowledged successfully. Also, with traditional VoIP adapters, neither the customer nor the monitoring center know if the internet connection has failed, however with Care Connect the heartbeat from the Adapter is monitored every 30 seconds by the Care Connect server. Loss of heartbeat is reported to the alarm monitoring center alarm receiver using the alarm panel account number and a standard contact ID formatted message. Now you have a reliable AND supervised Internet connection for your medical alarm system
at a low cost.
